CSR – Corporate Social Responsibility
We are aware that economic development is not possible without social and ecological progress.
It is the responsibility of the world's largest companies, including the Société Générale Group, to create more ecological and inclusive development models. We can say with full confidence that corporate social responsibility is at the heart of our Group's corporate purpose. We rely on four interrelated pillars: a culture of responsibility, being a responsible employer, supporting pro-ecological transformation and having a positive local impact.
We believe that the world of tomorrow is created today. We want to be the driving force behind these changes.
We are aware that changes in the field of corporate social responsibility need to be accelerated and implemented as quickly as possible. Taking into account environmental aspects, social interests, and relationships with customers, partners and employees, we want to contribute not only to building a better world today, but also the one in which future generations will live. As a company, we are changing our approach and way of thinking. We are moving away from the traditional financing and advising bank. We want to support our clients comprehensively, taking into account their market, ecosystem and all related issues. So as to be as close as possible to their reality and problems.
Climate commitments are a priority for us. Within these frameworks, we have set goals in line with the Paris Agreement.
The intermediate goals we have set are:
- Oil and gas – compared to 2019, reducing exposure to oil and gas in the upstream segment to -80%, as well as reducing absolute greenhouse gas emission bands 1, 2 and 3 to -70% (by 2030).
- Energy generation - compared to 2019, the emission intensity of the electricity generation sector on the level of 125g of CO2 per kWh (in 2030).
- Coal - complete phase-out in EU and OECD countries by 2030, in other parts of the world by 2040.
- Cement – compared to 2021, the CO2 emission intensity in the cement production sector is 535 kg of CO2 equivalent per 1 ton of cement (until 2030).
- Automotive - compared to 2021, CO2 emission intensity in the automotive sector at the level of 90 g of CO2 equivalent per 1 km traveled per vehicle (until 2030).
- Steel – alignment of the crude steel producers' portfolio with the IEA NZE scenario based on the Sustainable STEEL Principles (alignment score of 0 by 2030).
