We have been operating on international markets for over 160 years. Our origins date back to 1864, when Napoleon III signed a decree establishing the Société Générale, a French bank founded by financiers and industrialists with the idea of promoting the development of trade and industry. From the first years of its existence, the institution took the form of a diversified bank. Over time, the Société Générale gained an international dimension. Today, as the Société Générale Group, we employ more than 148,000 people in 76 countries around the world, serving more than 32 million individual, corporate and institutional clients.
